Arctotis stoechadifolia is a fast spreading perennial groundcover from the Western Cape region. Plants root easily from stems that spread across the ground and this species is an excellent water wise choice for large areas. The lovely velvety leaves have toothed or serrated margins and the dove grey colour contrasts well with all succulents. Large daisy flowers are yellow, white or cream. Both original species and the many Arctotis hybrids are low water-use plants and are very successful groundcovers in free-draining soils. There are a variety of forms from clumping to trailing and come in such a range of colours to suit every gardener’s palette. They flower through spring and summer depending on the species chosen, and are quite unfussy, growing in a variety of situations as long as the soil drains well. In humid climates, they do best with good air movement around the foliage.
