Description
‘Classic Cerise’ is a beautiful hybrid evergreen shrub flowers for most of the year. Fast-growing, it reaches full height rapidly, and, should that not be enough to encourage gardeners to add it to their collection, it also copes with harsh frost. Mature height ranges between 75 cm and 1.8 m depending on climate; a shrub in a warm, mist-belt garden in Hillcrest it galloped to a 1.8 m size within months. It is thus a lovely addition to bring colour and texture to a mixed screen, or placed in the middle to back of an herbaceous border. Just make sure to site it within view of the house! Flowers attract butterflies, bees, and myriad other insects. Prune yearly to retain a neat and compact shape otherwise, shrubs can become woody with a more open shape. The Anisodontea genus can be shortlived, but, as they grow fast and flower for months, are so worth their space in any garden. Flowers: bright to dark red-pink with dark pink veins radiating from the centre. Leaves: mid-green, hairy, with 3 unequally sized lobes, and deep, palmate veins. Plants take easily to pruning; for this reason, many of the Anisodontea species, particularly A. scabrosa, are popular lollipop plants worldwide. Habitat and regional distribution: this is a hybrid, so habitat and regional info is merely suggestive of where the plant will grow.
