Summer rainfall region
The Great, or Nama Karoo- the western interior is a vast, semi-arid, open plain. This comprises one of the largest vegetation regions in SA and Namibia. Characterised by scattered rocky outcrops interspersed with shrubs, herbs, grasses and small trees. Experiences overnight frost in winter and low summer rainfall. Less than 600 mm/ annum. Some overlap of plants with the Highveld and a little of the dry Bushveld region.
