A fast-growing perennial that flowers in the first year with profuse flowering by the third year. Large flat heads of a rather dull yellow top tall, slender grey stems in summer; initially bright yellow, the age to a darker yellow then brown. Flower stems are coated with silver/ white fluff. Leaves are grey-green with woolly undersides and become smaller towards the top of the stem. This groundcover spreads well in sun or bright, dappled shade, but not anywhere as vigorously as H. petiolare. Lovely loose perennial to intermingle in a bed with those of a similar growth habit and requirements. Beautiful in indigenous cottage gardens. Cut right back in winter to reduce woodiness and produce strong plants with dense foliage and flowers the following season. Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga
