Description

The Red hot poker is evergreen and extremely hardy and, as with most Kniphofia species, does well in both, ordinary garden conditions and in the water garden. It will flower better though if planted in a fertile soil enriched with organic material, and situated in full sun to partial shade. Similar to K. linearifolia, leaves are harder and narrower with flowers that are more rounded in shape. Initially pinkish red to green flower buds appear, which are then followed by the greenish yellow to yellow flowers in summer and autumn. Plants grow in small clumps in the wild Provincial distribution: Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Western Cape.
